Okay,  I am getting desperate now.  I am still having problems with something in my tank. I have lost a acro. I have a hydnophora that is turning white,  a couple acans are still declining.  I have been implementing a few recommendations, from various people for a while,  things still seem to be getting worse, certainly not better.  Although some of my corals are fine.  I would really like a couple  of the more experienced people in the hobby to pay me a visit to see if there is something that can be discovered before I lose everything.

Please pm me or call 801-540-0729

thanks

Rick

Yes,  I am currently running the exact schedule we discussed and since you seen it the acro is completely white.

Do you have another post drescribing the problems you're having? Pictures, details, descriptions?

If peramiters are in check and there is a fast loss in coral I would look for any kind of metal in the tank that is oxidizing. That's the only think that was killing my coral and once I took out the metal I thought was reef safe everything became healthy. Just a thought, you may already know this.

I think Rick is using the Red Sea Coral Pro

I remember he said he was having too high dKH problems, too.

His corals may be suffering from alk burn

I wish I was closer I would go up and help him out

I am using Oceanic now, currently doing another water change as we speak.  I did switch to red sea for no apparent reason.  Maybe, just because it was a better salt, or at least according to price.  Not sure, I didn't log in the date I made the change, but I am pretty sure it was close.  That is when I first started seeing the unhappy acans.  From there things have steadily gotten worse.  I did get my new light fixture, ATI sunpower.  So, some of this is probably due to new lighting.

Hey Rick,

If you still have that bucket of Red Sea can you check and see if there is a batch # or lot # listed somewhere on the bucket or labeling?

Just curious

I just bought the small buckets.  There is a place on the container for a batch number, but the didn't supply it.

How long have you been using Oceanic now?  What else have you already tried?  It's hard to keep track of it all when it's in several different threads.

You added a sunpower? Sounds like the extra light might be killing your coral.

Did you light acclimate your tank when you got the sunpower? Even when I replace my bulbs on my T5 I light acclimate the tank. I do two hours a day for a week. Then four hours a day for a week. Then 6,7,8 each a week until I reach desired time on.
None at the moment

Yes, I cut back my lighting, but apparently not enough.  I do believe the light has a factor, but the acans that I keep mentioning were pissed before the lights were replaced.  Is it a surprise that I could be losing some corals but not others due to light.  1 of the acans is low, 1 is midddle, both struggling.  Torch hig up brains on sand bed sympodium mid to high, frog spawn mid. these have little to no affect.

Sorry some of the info is spread through out sever threads, just trying to post in the appropriate spots.

how deep is your tank?  how high is the light fixture above the tank?  an 8 bulb sunpower can get 250+ par on the sand bed on a 21 inch tall tank, so you may need to even put some of your acans in the shade with that fixture....

Yes she was using red sea coral pro.
I bet alot of this has to do with the sunpower, those things put out some serious par.

You guys have to remember that he was using 8 overdriven T5s before the Sunpower. I doubt the Sunpower is causing too many problems at this point.

I would almost bet the salt is the problem. From the parameters I have seen with the Red Sea Pro, I wouldn't use it. It sounds just like another Reef Crystals formula with super high alkalinity.

One thing I see is that some LPS are having issues but not others. I would look into Magnesium levels and make sure they are about 1300ppm. I would also check where the RO water is coming from. Make sure the filters have all been replaced recently and double check to see if you have Chloramines in your water up there.
