Anyone ever have a tank that got electrocuted?Dead My 230 gal system was electrocuted and the system failsafes didn't help. The system was shocked for about 8 hours from a failed heater. The fish are fine but the softies and some LPS and inverts got the brunt Today is going to be a big waterchange day. Any suggestions for helping the  recovery for the corals? Any ideas for the ones that are holding on, most are shrivelled up, have a few strong ones left. Quick thoughts about whats next, I'm going to do a near total water change and hope for the best, any other suggestions??? I found another friends tank years ago that had a major ground problem and you got shocked when you put your hand in but his wasn't as bad as mine.

Here's an update for those interested:
The fish are great, never been hungrier, LPS seems OK but haven't seen full extension yet only partial when I fed them. The crabs an snails are history, so is my xlg brittle star, it looked like it had wrestled with the live wires personally and my microstars are all great. The green nepthea isn't green, more of a charred green now, don't know if it will recover, it looks smaller than yesterday. My many sarcos, they are for the most part still in on piece, no charring so to say, one that has been in a mild hibernation has minor polyp extension but my lg toadstool is standing tall and thin now. There were many sarco frags that I was coddling but haven't seen anything from them. The pink encrusting possibly gorgonia is receding at all corners, and hopefully will come back, much of the softball sized rock is covered in pieces that look ok. Had a spagetti leather that looks horrible and is shrinking.
The palys are still retracted but not slimy hopefully a good sign, my small polyped zoas look like they melted and the lg polyped zoas are retracted but am seeing more extension everyday. Last but not least the capnella is recovering and the polyps look like they were singed and the worst hit are my xenia, I finally get them to start propagating like mad and this happens. The xenia are left as nubs, no polyps or stalks just sm nubs where they used to be.
All this in a 200+ system. One good thing about this mishap is my GSP's are more vivid flourescent green than ever, thanks Dion for that frag, you get strong animals like Swartzeneggar from Dion, no disrespect to anyone else I've fragged with. Enough crying about my problems hope all is well for everyone else.

All I can offer is an "I've been there", I badly electrocuted my 55 gallon, like yours, the fish survived but I lost everything else from coraline to corals.  Water changes to keep the ammonia down from the dying critters is all I could ever find to do.  Mine took a LOT of cookies too, had to make up for the fact it was my hubby that found out it was electrified Confused

You aren't far from me, if you need anything let me know... all I can really offer coral wise atm are superman mushrooms and kenya trees, everything else I have are just frags.

I'm sorry to hear this. I hope it all works out and am glad that it is just the tank; not you!

What failsafes are you using?
How did you "notice" the electrocution?

I've been fighting stray electricity in the new tank for the last week.  So far just a few zapped fingers and arms, but still not fun.  I finally got a volt meter to track down the source of the electricity.  Turns out some kinds of lighting setups send off just enough stray current that if you complete the circut you get zapped.  Confused
Needless to say I tested all the tanks for other issues.

BTW "Thank You" for the thoughts to those who have called, made offers and donations to help, I may take you up on some of those offers when I feel ready to move forward with the business at hand...
