What kind of flow do you have?
IF your Ammonia reading is correct, that is a huge problem. A problem that I doubt stems from a recent overfeeding.

I am a huge fan of lots of flow. While we have yet to determine the cause of your problems, I would highly recommend additional flow...

Flow is good!!!! Just to give you an example I have a mp40 (3000gph) an mp10 (1000gph) and return pumps (900gph) in a 65 gal tank. Those flow rates are from memory so don't get picky!

I am not sure  I have never tested them  and i am an hour away from anyone that could or that i could buy some from.

I am not sure that any of it actually died i thought i saw some die off but not much. It may have just been some of the brown algea on it.

this was on sunday

this is today

should i do a 50% water change it is mixed and ready to go?

How long has the tank been setup?
If a water change is your only option I would consider it..(someone chime in here because a 50% water change will add more stress to the coral............CARBON!!!!!!)
You NEED to know CAL ALK and MAG levels. I have never checked
ammonia, ph, nitrite or nitrate in over 4 years.

The problem above is not an Alk, Ca, or Mg problem. It's a water chemistry problem...probably due to the ammonia spike (whatever caused it.) The dying chaeto could cause the ammonia spike (dying things do that), but something else could've triggered it.

Water changes are good, unless the salt or source water is bad. Are you using RO/DI? What brand of salt? How long do you let it mix before using it?

Have you had anything die other than chaeto that you're aware of? Any inverts/fish dying?

I am using rodi  i am using instant ocean  i have been use in it the whole time  i was told i should use a different kind so i was going to when i finish the bucket i have  i usually let it sit like an hour mixing it in a bucket with a power head.  the last thing i had die where snails but i always took them out before they rotted and that was like  a month ago.  the tank has been set up for 9 months and this is the worst problem i have had.

You should wait at least 24 hours after mixing salt water to use it. The ph and o2 levels are not stable right aafter mixing. However I dont think that is the problem. I use instant ocean with no probs. Who told you not to? Something must have died and is causing a chain reaction. A water change will def help.

Instant ocean is just fine until you start getting into crazy stonies that uptake a lot of minerals that are difficult to dose. You are fine using it.

Yes, mixing saltwater a day ahead is ideal but should not cause this sort of problem. Did you recently stir up the sand, add rock or something?

I would do 25% water changes a day for the next week. I'd also run carbon. This should help remove the toxins and help reset everything.
