Well we had a small get together with some of the neighbors tonight. While talking to the ones that lived next to us he asked about our tanks. So while talking to him he told me the people that lived behind us think we are growing pot in our basement because of the lights they see lol. I have my 225 gallon tank down there in front of our window so they can see the light from the metal halides lol. Love ignorant people. Guess since we have tatts and aint the norm for this neighborhood we have to be doing illegal things like growing pot. Just found this ammusing anyone else have this happen?

I actually had the cops come to my house one day and wouldn't leave until I proved I was growing coral and not weed

I get it all the time living on the main road. When I'm outside cops always stop and ask what I got going on inside.

LOL oh wow! I am actually surprised I haven't had this problem. When I had my tank in my front area we have these small windows above our big one so my lights totally looked like we were growing something in our front room. Too funny!
On second thought maybe that's why our neighbors don't really talk to us

lol well they came over last week to tell us they were putting up a vinyl fence so maybe that is part of the reason they decided to, but saves us from payin to do it in the future so im good with that lol. It was a good laugh maybe I should try inviting them over to smoke some frogspawn since that is what im growing with my lights

I can see why people would think that. not many people are inform that you need strong lighting to keep corals, or even in fact keep corals in tanks. I have my windows open all of the time so the neighbors see that i'm growing corals and not something else.

There's a cop who moved in about 8 months ago and I guess he noticed the lights in the house and had one of his "buddies" come check it out. They said it was suspicious because of the bright lighting as well as people coming and going frequently (which was people leaving with fish or corals) Once he saw the tanks he thought it was pretty cool and we ended up talking for about an hour.

Ours sits right by the front window, so we have the neighbors stopping to look all the time. But, I heard a story on a different forum a while back.
An elderly couple had a reef tank in the basement. The neighbors came over one day and saw blue light coming from under the basement door, and saw a bunch of white powder and syringes out on a table. Well, the neighbor called the cops...they got a search warrant...and busted open the elderly couple's door to search the home. Yikes!

No tatts but for the 1st 6 months after we moved in, numerous neighbors assumed we were also growing weed.

one place the cops get tips from is the electric company. If your usage is higher than "normal" they have the cops check it out. Most grow lights use as much electricty as MH.

It's the tats. Man, the misunderstanding is universal. In the 60's there was a song about it... >And the sign said, "Long-haired freaky people need not apply"
>So I tucked my hair up under my hat, and I went in to ask him why
>He said, "You look like a fine, upstanding young man, I think you'll do"
>So I took off my hat and said, "Imagine that! Ha, me workin' for you!" Signs - Five Man Electrical BandI've always loved that song and it's message.

I had the cable company show up and said there was a leak in the cable system, causing interference with airplane communications over my house. When actuallity they were there it see what i was growing. Increase in electric bill raises a big ole Red Flag.

The other day I bought some Xenia from a guy and I met him at the mall. When I pulled up I handed him the money and he gave me tha bag with the Xenia in it. All I could think is "Man, I bet someone thinks this is a drug deal" lol
