Progress on my Favorite Corals - Added more pics.

So what's my favorite corals??? Suncorals!!  I  them!!!  There's a good bud on the forum who gave me a colony because they need the extra T.L.C - so I thought I would post pics of their progress. . .

12/3/06 - Ah. . .looking a bit better!  I think at this point they were trained.  I will have to say training them was the hardest part, but once you got them there - it's all down hill ya know!

Thanks guys!!  I noticed more babies on the back of the colony last night after snapping the shots. 

You wanna know what's funny??  The hubby knows the V-day is coming up (& if you're a man. . this is a friendly reminder to get something for your special someone or else. . . )  and he said that my gift would be another colony maybe the black ones!!  Ooo I'm excited!!!

See all it takes is the love of a good woman. Nice job! I've considered these a couple of times however am a bit trepidatious about my abilities in keeping them.

Fantastic job Amie.  Unfortunately mine have gone the opposite direction although I have been able to keep some of them alive for over 3 years now.

Well I have a 27gal nano and I think these corals are perfect nano tank corals. 

But when I got them. . I had to turn off all my water movement devices and lay the mysis on them.  making sure all the heads got food.  If the heads are connected by tissue then you just have to worry about feeding the main head.  (are you confused?)  But I did this for bout a month, every night around the same time.  The corals got to the point where they just opened up every night once the pcs turned off.  

Once they got to that stage, I left the pumps on and I could shoot the mysis/brine mixture to the heads and they got caught the food.  But I think what really started them to grow more is krill.  Yup they eat krill!  When I had my fungia I would feed them krill so why not the sun corals. . . I think when I feed them the krill I could go longer between feedings.

The suncorals are at a point where they know when food gets shot in the tank and they begin opening up.  But my black sun corals in the process of training. . . . just begin opening at night. . . . hopefully in a month or two I can post progress shots of them.

So just curious. Do you feed at the EXACT same time each day? Or does it need to be within a window -- namely -- feed within an hour or two of a certain time?

I have always wanted a sun coral but have feared that I wouldn't be disiplined enough for them. I have no problem spot feeding them, my problem is spot feeding them at an exact time each day. When I feed it is somewhere between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm and I don't know if that is as exact as they would need.

Suzy hit it on the mark. . . I just feed them any time after my lights went off.  And she's right, once they get the smell of food they open up.
