Topic: What is the best glue to use for acrylic? Posted: November 09 2016 at 1:59pm |
I've always only done glass for my builds but I have a little acrylic project. Anybody know what is best to use to glue two acrylic pieces together? Can I use the regular silicon I use for glass?

Silicone does not bond well to acrylic and will pull off over time.
Weld-on has proven to be the one that works best for me. #3 and #4 are quite thin and fairly easy to apply. #16 is thicker like a gel superglue and lets you apply it to one piece and then press it against another.
I found the key to a good bond is to scrape the edge smooth (or heat polish which is hard to get right) and then hold the pieces together. Apply the weld-on and give the acrylic a little time to soften. Then apply weight to one piece to seal the joint. allow is to set for 15 minutes or so and then apply additional weld-on if there are any gaps or bubbles.

+1 Weld-on is easy to use because it melts the Acrylic to make a strong bond. I have two partially used pint cans, #3 and #16, that are about 6 months old and need to be used. Would consider trading for New Wave Arctic Copepods or enriched BS. Let me know.

Mark that would be great because I don't need a whole bunch. When is a good time to make the trade?
