There is always talk about testing Alk, Ca, Mg, and the three N compounds but of course there are other things we can monitor and adjust; just to name a few, PO4(phosphate), Fe(iron), I(iodine), and K(potassium).
Besides a Nitrogen Cycle, a Sulfur Cycle is also important to our little ecosystems. I believe there are actually 100's of elements/molecules/minerals that are important in our tanks. When present in the right amounts, they help me to keep a more mature, healthy aquarium.
Unfortunately, I can't test and/or it's extremely expensive to test parameters like DMSP. To make up for this inability/expense, I try to increase the diversity of my tanks population of Algae, Sponge, Tunicates, worms, bugs and as many other organisms as I can find.
I'm not sure if there is much here for discussion, but I'd sure like to hear from anyone that finds this interesting and what they do to add diversity and health to their reef aquarium
Aloha,
Mark
