Topic: Toadstool Leather Posted: January 22 2007 at 9:03am |
Hello!
I have a toadstool leather that hasn't opened in a month. No polyp extention at all. Everything else seems to be growing well. I have moved it around without success. It has good color. The stalk looks like it is calcifying? It looks like there is a film of green algae (very minute, under magnifying glass) on the stalk.
I have cleaned the top of the cap. Should I try to clean the stalk and can I remove the toadstool from the water to do it? It is on its own small rock.
Thanks

If the tissue looks ok and feels like wet leather (not slimy) it should still be fine. Make sure it has good water flow.

Thanks, Mike,
I have read about them not opening for a week or so, I just worry that it hasn't opened in a such a looong time! No slime, just a calcerous crust forming up the stalk toward the cap and the green algae on the stalk. Good mottled color. No sick white!!

Sounds exactly like mine at times. I hate it when it doesn't open.

Yeah, I'm finding out that its almost as frustrating as raising a baby!! Does it need changed, fed, (can't cuddle a coral),etc. Almost same emotional commitment, though not as intense. I haven't got to that level, yet.
