I filled my 55 with water and it had a leak so I removed all the silicone and went to HD and bought some GE 100% silicone, I made sure the front of the tube didnt have VOC printed on it, so I went home sealed it all up and let it cure. After all this, the genius inside of me decided to read the back of the tube, and sure enough it has VOC in small print. Now is this ok or am I going to kill off all the bacteria in the sump? I really dont want to scrape it all out and start over but I will if I have too.

VOC's are what it gives off when it cures, you wan't the one without mildecide, if its says anitmildew etc its the wrong kind

Make sure you allow it to cure thoroughly and you shouldn't have any problems.

I've used ACE with the mildewcides, and scraped it out and resealed with GE 100% silicone 1 and looked at the back and it says not for aquarium use, kinda scared me but haven't had any problems

GE Silicone 1 is safe to use in aquariums. Just let it cure for at least 24 hours before adding water. The longer you can let it cure the better.

The reason they print the not for aquarium use is to avoid complaints due to seam separation. It is completely safe for aquarium use but not for building larger tanks. As long as there are no mildewcides in it it wont hurt your livestock.

Ok, the GE Silicone 1 is the stuff I used and it will be probably another 3 days before I add water so I wont worry. Thanks for all your input.
