I'm going to be buying a media reactor tomorrow, and was wondering if anyone has used the duel BRS reactor for carbon and GFO. I've seen a few negative reviews about it because its hard to get the GFO to tumble properly. Has anyone had this problem? Id like to get the duel but not if it doesnt do the GFO properly since thats the main reason I'm getting it.

I thought you weren't supposed to tumble GFO because the parts can break up and leak out into the tank.
I might be thinking of another product though.

They need to tumble I tiny bit in a reactor or else the GFO will solidify.

Is it 14 inches from the end of the bracket or 14 inches from where the hoses stick out. If you could check that for me I'd really appreciate it. The spot I would put it doesnt have much wiggle room.

I had the BRS Dual Reactor. It is really hard to keep the proper flow rate through the media and it tended to clog very easily ( I was using a maxi-jet 1200 ) Its also a pain to clean, especially if you change the carbon and GFO at different intervals. Much easier with 2 single reactors that I have now, although some people are having problems with those clogging too. BRS just came out with some new clear plastic inserts. I picked up a couple and they do seem to work better than the old ones. You might want to consider another brand. I would if I didn't already have the BRS reactors. For the price they are not bad but there are definitely better ones out there. I think Tyler ( Elite Aquatics ) makes them. HTH

What was hard about cleaning it? Don't you just unscrew it? I have a avast reactor, which seems to be pretty close to tylers and it's a nightmare to change anything on it, and I'm not going to even use it again because of it.
Are you talking about the inserts that go inside the reactor that hold the media? They don't just come with those?
I need to mount the reactor in the inside of my stand above my sump because I have no where else to put it. So I need something thats easy to clean and replace the media with. To me it looked like the BRS reactors would do that the best, but I don't know.

I have been running my duel reactor for over a year now and I hardly have to mess with the flow and I haven't had any products very easy to use. I change GFO every two months and carbon every two weeks. I don't use the suggested amount on the carbon because I feel its to much. I use about 75% of suggest amount using the ROx8. Works great let me know I can answer any questions or post pics.

I should have said its messy, not hard to clean. If I just unscrewed it I would always end up leaking some water out of it so i use to remove the whole unit from inside the stand and clean it that way. Might not be a problem for you. Flow through it always slowed way down after running just a couple of days to the point I didn't feel there was enough flow through the GFO. If you tee it off your Return or use a stronger pump you might not have this problem either. They do come with the inserts but they just came out with different inserts that are a hard clear plastic and you can use them without the sponges for the GFO so they don't clog as easily. The new reactors may even come with these now. They are much better than the old ones, IMO Like I said they are good Reactors. I just found that running 2 Single Reactors worked better for me than the Dual, and was worth spending a little extra money for. Seem a little easier as far as maintenance. Either way you go they do mount nicely inside the stand so they will be perfect for what you want to do.

Teknik, are you using the maxi 1200 pump?
Jimbo, do you have the deluxe version or the regular? Do you run each on its own pump?
I've actually never ran my carbon in a reactor, always just a bag and have had no issue. I for sure want a reactor for the GFO so I figured I might want to try out the duel. But now I'm leaning toward getting just the deluxe version and using it for GFO.

I have only used the single Brs reactor. I love my nextreef Mr1 reactor though. I think no matter what brand you get, they'll all be messy to clean.

I use the dual reactor with the new clear inserts. The new inserts are a huge improvement over the old ones. So far it has worked well for me. The GFO needs to boil slightly to keep it from solidifying. I use a maxi-jet 1200
