So I have had a ton of people asking me about my new razors (even before they got here questions were coming in) so I decided to do a review of them now that I have them.
They come in a nice package and are packed very secure and safe for shipping. One of my boxes was damaged some what bad on one of the sides and I was worried about the fixture but when I opened it up the light and components were still in perfect condition! Also the marketing on the boxes is nice and professional. My last set of Maxspects that I bought almost 4 years ago (110w Maxspect G2 Extremes) Came in just a brown box with no marketing on the package.
The Fixtures come standard with leg mounts that sit on the edge of a tank if you are setting on the top of a tank and they also come with hanging kits (which I prefer to use). The leg mounts have thumb screws to hold the legs firmly in place so you won't have to worry about they slipping and moving unless you want them to.
I actually like the spread out LED's on my old maxspects over the Led clusters because the light spread under my old fixtures was really even everywhere in my frag tanks but I still like the new razors better overall. They shimmer a lot more with the LED clusters and if you have a lot of surface agitation it can be almost too much shimmer because you can see the different colors in the shimmers but I personally like the shimmer effect.
Here is the bottom of the fixture so you can see the LED clusters and the fan. The fan is temperature controlled and only turns on if the fixtures become hot enough to need the fan for cooling. I haven't seen the fans turn on at all yet on my fixtures.
Here is a pic of the top of the fixture. These fixtures are only 1" top to bottom and look very nice and I'm 100% satisfied with them in every aspect! Even more so when you figure the cost of these compared to other nice fixtures on the market.
The drivers are meanwell drivers and it has a pretty long cord with a waterproof quick disconnect fitting to offer a lot of different options when running the cord to the fixture.
The built in controller with LCD back lit display is pretty user friendly and easy to set up. The manual is in English (good english) and is easy to follow and it took me only about 10 minutes to have all 3 of my fixtures programmed, time set and ready to go. Also they come with 6 basic preset patterns that you can choose from if you don't want to take the time to program your own custom settings.
With dimming ability on whites and blues separate you can create a lot of different color spectrums to make it look exactly how you want it to look. I like mine close to 20K metal halide coloring and with my whites at 75% and blues at 85% I think they look great and hopefully my LED chips will last a long time since I'm not running them full power. They slowly ramp up to the 75/85 and then slowly ramp back down to nothing so most of the day they are not even at the 75/85 settings.
Here's a pic of the hanging kit on the fixture after hanging them and some full tank shots after setting them up.
Also just for kicks here is a pic of my old maxspect g2 extreme's on my 175 gallon bowfront.
Feel free to reply and ask any questions that you might have for me about these fixtures and I will try to answer them to the best of my ability.
Thanks for reading.
