Hello Kyle,
In my opinion and long experience, building a glass tank is a lot of work and trouble. Used tanks that have been cared for properly can last for 10+ years. This morning I saw a standard 120 gal tank and stand on ksl.com for about $100. It was in your area, Utah County. The seller was very anxious to unload it, hence the low price. No idea whether it was in good shape or whether the glass was badly scratched or silicone seals were compromised.
If a person has never built their own large glass tank I would suggest doing a small tank first to gain some experience. The risk of failure and the damage caused by tank failure is very serious stuff. The larger the tank, the bigger the problem.
That said, I have a friend, a very experienced hobbyist, that has all the Starfire beveled edge glass and cartridges of superior quality silicone to put together a 48" x 48" x 24" euro style cube tank. I'm not sure if he is still willing to sell. He might have put it into storage for later, when he has selected the right place to put it. I suggest calling him to find out.
Aloha,
Mark
