All,
 
I am nearly done with an ASM like skimmer that I have been working on in my spare time.  A couple of days ago I drilled the output hole for  my skimmer and installed the uniseal and PVC pipe.  Today, I filled the skimmer with water to see if the uniseal worked.  After I filled the skimmer with water I found that the uniseal didn't make a very good seal around one small portion of the hole.  Since this skimmer was made to be an in-sump skimmer, should the leak around the uniseal be of any concern?  Will this leak affect the skimmer's performance?  If so, what should I do to fix the problem?

The small leak at the uniseal will not affect the performance of the skimmer if used in sump.  It would only be a problem if it was to be run stand alone outside the sump.  Things would get wet.   You will get some salt creep buildup at that uniseal though.
 
I have an older Euroreef that I modded to be a recirc skimmer.  It has several leaks like you describe.. the thing skims like you can believe, but it has to be run insump because of the mess it would make outside a sump.
