I have just upgraded my tank and bought 40 lbs of new sand and put 15 lbs of live sand over the top from my old tank. How long should it take for the LS to take over the sand underneath to make it all live?

If conditions are right, life grows exponentially. 2 4 8 16 32 64 128

And that's just the first week, if there is proper food and surroundings. How much life was in the sand from your old tank? Were there worms and grammerus, copepods and rotifers, bacteria and protozoa? Did you rinse the old sand or leave it cruddy? What larger organisms are living in the new tank? How about the rock?

Don't you just love it when Mark starts the 20 questions?

However, if Mark did not ask, hopefully someone else would!  It is definitely worth answering Mark's questions to get the right answer though!

The smaller tank was doing fine. The live rock is about 1/3 live to 2/3 utah. I didn't wash the old sand out I just moved it over, other than taking out some unwanted trash that had been made. There was worms and pods I saw them at night.
