On my drilled 220 the holes are drilled at 1", can I pipe the supply and return at 1" or should I increase the supply to 2" right underneath the overflow? I would think I'm still only going to get 1" worth of water because that's the original size of the pipe. Will going bigger make any difference to justify the cost difference between 1" pipe and 2"? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
Id say increase it on your drain if you can... it sometimes quiets the flow into the sump... and unless your return pump has a bigger outlet than a 1" don't bother... but if its like a dart or something at 1.5" outlet or whatever they are...... I believe you will get that slight increase on flow if you have the right pump pushing pushing the right amount of pressure though the larger lines... and I would reduce it as far out as you can / at the bulk head
Static pressure the pumps can put out compared to the dynamic pressure we will lose in our plumbing size... I guess that would be a good experiment to mess around with...
Also I used to think flex pipe looked tacky a thrown together look... but I honestly believe your going to get better results on flow using flex pipe I will most likely use it next time I set up something big
Water that goes through a short small opening just goes through faster and loses a little pressure. A 2" drain pipe above the bulkhead is great if there is room for it in the overflow, but below the bulkhead 2" may be overkill when 1.5" is typically sufficient.
Flex pipe is awesome because it helps avoid the need for pressure stealing elbows. Water that has to turn a 90 degree corner loses a lot of momentum. I will more often use less water flow resistant 45's where a bigger bend is required.

Hey Mark, long time no talk! Ok so in my overflow the drains are 2" but the tank is drilled at 1", so going from 2" to 1" back to 2" under the tank doesn't make much sense other than the 2" PVC pipe is free, I will only use PVC on the drain and I will take both of yours advice and do flex pipe on the return.
