I am looking at getting a reefkeeper lite for my tank. I want to use it as a wavemaker, ATO, and temp regulator. What would be best for me to get and why? And anyone have one lying around they want to sell that can do these things?
I do like my RKL, but will likely upgrade it through dA. They'll take a used RKL and upgrade it to a RKE, which has WAY more upgradeable, for $150.
I know BobC had a controller setup for sell a little while back ~$300.
The budget (level 1 or 2) RKL setup will do most of the things we want automated on a tank and depending on how many power outlets you need to run you can also monitor pH, ORP or salinity with an SL1 or SL2. I have an SL1, 2 PC4's and a NET controller, which I haven't quite dialed in but it at least emails me if a parameter gets out of spec.
The RKL is limited to 4 modules, so I am maxed out, and want to run one more PC4 or maybe a salinity probe on the SL2 - someday. They don't seem to be the most reliable units out there from what people say.
I got my RKL off ebay for like 109 bucks shipped. Ive had it for a year and so far I havent had any problems with it and its been really nice having. Like MIK3B stated, you are limited to only 4 outlets unless you buy another PC4. When I was looking for one I think they were going for around 80 bucks. Anyways just for some basic controls and for the price I really like this controller. I have it controling my lights, return pump, heaters, and fan.
