Topic: Anbody dosing vit c? Posted: February 22 2011 at 11:54am |
Hey I have been following this thread on RC and I was wondering if any of you guys are dosing with vit c. I picked up about 50 zoa frags a few weeks ago some are happy some still havent completely opened. So I ordered some of the vit c stuff that puffer on RC recommended. If any of you have experience with this chime in. Did it help? Did you see any improvements?

i really didnt see much improvment.... i still dose but its every 2 weeks a few drops or i will just soak the fish food in it.
i still use it cause i belive every single living organism needs vitamin c, IMO, and i feel better knowing that its at least available to them. with my zoas and palys i have found they look poor when my iodide is low

Check your fish food and other supplements you dose.....
Not sure if this is the right way to think but my fish food (frozen & pellets) and Amino Acid supplements both have vitamin C in them, so I would imagine if you dose a few things already and feed good quality food, more than likely Vitamin C is getting in your tank....

I dose Vitamin C daily, about 6.5 cc's of it in my sump. I've noticed my corals are happier when I do than if I forget.

I will have to check my food to see if there is any vit c in them. I read through the rc thread and people have some amazing before and after pics. So I figured I would give it a shot. From what I read over time your tank will become depleted of these types of vitamins if your not dosing. My zoos grew like crazy a few months back but I have kinda hit a stalemate. And with all these new frags I want to give them the best chance at looking good. I got some pretty high end ones

Oh how do I know if my iodine is low. Is there even a test for that? Badfinger do you just dose with lugols or something else?

There are Iodine/iodide test kits. If you're going to dose AquaVitro Vibrance the Salifert test kit will give a false positive. Use the SeaChem Iodine test kit.

I dosed vit c for a few months according to puffer's recommendation- I didn't see any improvement at all and I saw no difference when I stopped using it. I went through the whole bottle before I stopped. If you've seen my tank I have a whole mess of zoas and I'm of the opinion that dosing vit c = no significant change. I've noticed more change in my tank using aquavitro fuel than anything. That and regular water changes seem to be the key to zoa growth for me.

I have been doing frequent water changes lately I used to wait like 6 weeks but I have been doing one like every 2 now. I dont use fuel but I do use coral frenzy. Maybe I will have to look into getting some of that.
Ps I have seen pics of your zoos and they are pretty damn sweet!

Hey thanks! The fuel has both iodine and vitamin c as well as a bunch of other great stuff. I soak some cyclopeeze, coral frenzy, brine shrimp, and mysis shrimp in fuel and selcon and target feed all my corals.

Snowman,
I have been reading the same thread and almost ordered several times. Since you ordered I presume you will give it a try. Please post your results so I can quit wondering what I should use - fuel, brightwell Vitamarin c, or the straight vitamin c and actually do something!

Out of all those I would use fuel, its vitamin, fatty acids, amino acids..... in fact on vitamarinC (I have a bottle) it says if dosing with fuel(not fuel, but the name slips me) use X amount instead of full amount

Fuel does have Iodine but it is in so small a trace that it probably doesn't do much. It also lists Copper as one of the trace elements but again in a very minute amount so just because it's on the label doesn't mean it is in the right form or that it even helps.
Also as I understand it only Iodide is beneficial to corals which is why I dose Vibrance in addition to Fuel. I agree that if your dosing Fuel you probably don't need to dose Vit C as well. I tried it and didn't see any real change or improvement.

Well I started to dose a few days ago. No real improvements yet. I will update in a while and let everyone know how it is going.

I would take some before/after pics otherwise you will never be able to tell if there is much of an improvement. Post them so we can see!
