QuoteReplyTopic: Need AC in SW Valley Posted: July 10 2014 at 9:12pm
So over the last few hours we have had most all our fish die and coral is retracting. We are still searching for for foreign contaminants and I'm starting a 55g water change (300g system) but I'm down to a few cups of AC and stores are of course now closed.
I could use help with two things should anyone be able.
-Spare AC that I can replace this weekend
-Stray voltage tester
Plan so far:
-Adding AC to bags and putting in sump
-55g water change draining now and will mix overnight and add to system tomorrow
-Check for voltage (don't have a tester)
-55g water change Friday/Sat
-55g water change Sat/Sun
Other details of relevance:
-No visible issues at 4PM when we left for evening activities.
-Last water change was this past weekend. Same bucket of RS coral pro was used for prior two water changes.
-Water still being tested but Alk is low and Mg high.
Observation that may or may not matter. The macro in my sump is thinned out a lot. Where I normally might toss out 1G a month or so, I probably need more right now.
What type of heater are you using? Is it possible that your tank overheated? The macroalgae dying back could be symptomatic of overheating or contamination. Is it possible that kids put something in the tank or sump. Stray voltage only kills fish that dwell in the rocks or substrate. Or are sleeping in the rocks but it doesn't happen that quickly unless it's a lot of electricity. Your alk being low wouldn't kill you fish quickly either unless it was super low and you had a major pH swing.
Any Update on this, I just saw it and Have 3lbs of AC sitting next to my tank, In Kearns off MTN View Cor... If needed PM ME Im home today if you need it before shops open...
Sorry for your loss.....
55g - RIP - Moved to 90g 36g Bow holding tank 90g Reef Tank Dreams of many more!
Sorry for asking for help and then ignoring the thread. Best guess is it was a cuc-nuke. Lost a few handfuls and have 4 left. Thanks all for the ideas.
