I run 400w 10,000k ushios on a Probe Start Magnetic ballast and they seem to work fine.

Carl, if I remember right Eric is running the 20k XM bulb...

I have had no personal experience with anything other than the 10k ushio but from what I have read the 20k Radiums are the "best" 20k bulb but an electronic ballast is needed to run them properly.

Travis,  can you look at the bulb and see if there's a starting electrode inside?  After looking at some reseller's websites, it looks like the 400w ushio is probe start... I wonder why Ushio's web site has it wrong .

I'm BLIND... I guess I should have turned them off first.  Anyway, mine do not have a resister.  According to the diagram it is a pulse start but mine start fine and as far as I can tell they burn fine.

BTW, the ballasts are also a cooltouch system.  I have been running these bulbs for a little over 6-mo now.

Travis, how do you like the cooltouch systems? I am torn between the economics of their lighting VS something with electronic ballasts. Please, HELP ME!!!! This lighting stuff is driving me nuts! I am consumed by lighting! Lighting is... aarrrggghhhh. MAKING ME ANGRY! YOU WON"T LIKE ME WHEN I AM ANGRY!!!!!!

They seem fine to me.  As in your other post they will consume more power than electronics will but they are a lot cheaper.  I have only had them for a little more than 6-mo so long term... I'm not sure.  I haven't heard of anyone having problems yet though.

I like the Cool Touch System, and if you ever have a problem, you can call them, and they'll basically send you a new one for nothing.
