Hey every one I'm setting up a 300 gallon tank. What's everyone's ideas on sumps.. also post pics of what you have if you don't mind thanks.

The reef tour is in a few weeks.  You should come up that day and come see a dozen tanks and see what people have.

I would suggest a large sump with refugium for a 300gal maybe a 75 gallon or a 90 gallon tank and install baffles in it.

Aloha Justin,

I would definitely do a sump with an RDP Refugium. Here is a link to my story about how an RDP Refugium made a huge difference for me:  "RDP Refugium" also see "Saving my Reef"

FYI, wet/dry trickle filters often cause a very high nitrate level that is hard to counteract.

I add my voice to going on the Reef Tour, an awesome way to see lot's of hobbyist tanks and to pick their brains for ideas.

I did all of the above on my current one... I'm not sure if that's a bad idea though... I have a bio-ball Sump with a small protein skimmer, a RDP Refugium, currently side-by-side with my main tank, and then also a canister filter that came with my new tank. 

I filled the canister with bio-wheels, carbon, and filter foam.  I worry a bit about the carbon as I'm not sure at what point that will suck up enough nitrates that my reef will start to starve.
