I got my daughter a 20 gallon tall fish tank, but I have no glass top for it and she really wants one... Any ideas or does anyone have one?

Yes, I have an idea. Forget the glass and leave it open on top. An open top allows fresh air above the water, promotes good gas exchange, proper pH and a healthy reef.

The next question is what to do for a light. Use sunlight. Some direct sunlight is good but even indirect sunlight is very powerful. For a little boost in color, suspend a supplemental light above the tank for evening viewing. If you like DIY economy, use a common Actinic fluorescent light tube combined with a pinkish colored plant grow tube (the same used in freshwater) powered with an electronic ballast meant for HO/VHO lights. This light combination makes colors "pop". (LED's are great but their price is still overly high)

Lowes does cut-to-size on glass. Don't forget to leave room for any equipment hanging out the top

I agree with Mark and would not do a glass top.

If you are worried about fish jumping out, I would build a screen top for it. Easy and saves the fish while it lets air in.
