Topic: Auto Top Off System Posted: November 20 2013 at 12:21am |
Hello,
I just posted in the classified section of this forum but I figured I'd also ask here. I'm looking to pick up an auto top off system for my 30gal reef tank. It would just help me keep the levels more level. I'd like to spend $100 or less if possible, and it might not be. I would like a system that as least bulky as I can since my tank isn't big and I don't have a sump I'm trying to keep the equipment that is in my tank to a minimum. If there are systems that are over $100 but are just worth it I'd like to hear about that as well. If anyone has any suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it. Also, If anyone has a old system they aren't using and wants to sell, please let me know :)
Thanks!

Will this top off system be fed by an RO water line? Is there space above or near the tank for a reservoir? I use the "Glug Jug" whenever practical, especially for a system less than 100 gal. It's fail proof. Aloha, Mark

What is a glug jug. But no, unfortunately I don't have an area were I can place my water above the tank. That would be nice :) I saw some people would make an auto topping system by placing their replacement water above there tank and just using gravity to fill it.
I'll going to take a look at that jbj auto top system. Is it a fairly slim system? I know I can't get to picky, but I'm just wondering if the sensors are pretty smalls since I'll be placing it directly into my tank :)

There are smaller sensors out there, but these are not very big..

Thanks Scott.
Also, I just had another thought. Is there a system that can be "upgraded" later with a later pump? My thinking is that if I get a larger tank down the road (and we plan to eventually) can I still use the sensor on most of the suto toppers and then just upgrade the pump? We would most likely get a tank around 75 gal. (30gal is current).

Sure. But the same pump would work for either tank.
Any ATO is just a switch that turns a pump off and on. Some more complicated than others. The pump is just what the switch happens to turn off and on.
