I'm looking at adding a controller to my tank.

From everything I have read, and everyone I have talked to.  Apex Controllers seem to be the way to go.

Right now I am looking at the most basic functions:

Temp control and Temp and PH monitoring.

Being budget conscious: Will the Apex JR fit the bill, or should I save longer and wait to get the regular APEX AQUA Controller.

What is the best solution for the money now, and also looking to the future?

I currently have a 55 gallon mixed reef setup.

ReefOn, I look forward to your input on this.

I would save your pennies and get the aqua controller. The Jr may fit the bill for the moment but has limited expandability (4 modules and the EB4 takes 1 and the display takes another leaving you with 2 left). I think you will find that once you have the Apex you will want it to do more and more for you and if you bought the Jr you would hit the wall pretty quick and then have to spend more to get the Aqua Controller after all of that.

I have a 28g cube and I thought I would just need basic stuff. Luckily I got an Aqua Controller because I have 6 modules and have it monitoring or running just about everything on that tank. Give yourself the ability to expand without having to buy a new base unit. You won't regret it. Krazie

Honestly if your just looking for the Temp and PH functions i woud get a reefkeeper lite. You can find used ones pretty cheap here on the forums.

+1 to the reefkeeper lite.  I recently made the same purchase.  After looking around I found that controllers maintain their value very well.  A year old reefkeeper lite recently sold(here I think) for $105.  They retail for $119.  From that I decided to start with a reefkeeper lite.  If I feel like upgrading later, I can sell it for near the same price as new.
