Im looking to buy two of the new Hydra 52 HD lights to put over my new 100 gallon SC Aquarium starfire tank (48 x 20 x 24).  I was curious if any one has experience with the Hydra 52's or owns them currently.  Is two enough for this tank?  Should I put the lights in line with the tank length or perpendicular to it?  How is SPS coral growth/color and any issues with shadowing?  Id love to come look at a tank if possible.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I would personally hang them perpendicular to the tank. I have mine hung this way. I think two would technically cover it. You might notice a tiny bit of shadows in the outskirts. You could always start with 2 and add the third if you needed. I have six that cover an area that is 72" by 48".

Nice tank dion! Love your raised canopy! I noticed your tank is 30" wide where mine is only 20". Would you still run them like yours knowing that? I'm a bit worried that I would have a dim area in the middle (unless I go with 3 which isn't in the budget right now). But on the other hand running them in line may cause some front to back shadowing, that's why I am asking which would be better. Thanks for you replies!!!

Running them in line should be perfect. Realistically unless your looking at your tank from front and back your lights will be a tad forward to hit the sand bed. The back is typically higher and needs less light.
