I lowered my durso drain. Does this change anything other than the waterfall in the overflow chamber?

No, it should not change anything else.
Have you tested the drain system for proper operation by shutting off the return pump?
Note: Stay by the switch or be ready to plug it back in just in case there is too much water in the system and it threatens to overflow.
