I wonder if it is really related to higher PH.

That's what I think in addition to it being more stable.

After I posted the first part I thought about it some more and tried to think of what else might have changed in my normal routine and all I could think of was feeding more of those dry foods. I've also been feeding some thawed and rinsed Masago lately. Masago is the little flying fish eggs that you put in sushi. The orange coloring washes out when you rinse it.

Thanks for the update. I don't know about higher PH but more stable is definitely a help. I believe masago is very nutritious. That could help some too.

Well, I can't comment as I don't know the PH of my tank, but the blue tang I have is great.  Still kickin' after quite some time (nearly two months).  Good anecdotal info, though.

I've had mine for a year now. I also feed mysis and nori on a clip daily. I feed my fish a little of all the things I mentioned daily. Anyway I'm just really happy that hippo has been free from ich for about 2 months now, whatever the reason. My ph used to vary from 7.9 at night to about 8.2 when the lights were on. I just couldn't get it above 8.2. Now my ph gets down to about 8.2 at night and gets to 8.3 - 8.4 when the lights are on.
