Topic: Help ID my conch Posted: November 09 2008 at 12:57am |
I got this conch from a lfs because they said that the fighting conch that I went there to get ate snails. So I got this one and I like the looks just wondering what it is. ![](http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r152/af_kf/aquarium/IMG_2053.jpg) ![](http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r152/af_kf/aquarium/IMG_2054.jpg) When I first got it I think the whole shell was shiny with none of the black spiky stuff. Thanks in advance

Cowrie eat sponge and stuff that has grown on the LR in an older mature tank.

Thanks for the compliment Mike. And are cowries bad or good? I have some very cool fluorescent green sponges that I would like to keep.

Some cowries are bad in that they eat some coral. Others eat sponge and it is still unknown what some others eat. They will nock corals over and should probably only be in large systems. If there is sponge you want to keep then you should probably get rid of him. I don't think it is a deer cowry because of the black flesh. I though deer cowries had light color flesh.

You can remove it whenever it becomes a problem. Until then, enjoy.
Late one night a slug was moving along minding his own business heading home from work when two juvenile delinquent snails came running up and assaulted him. The police happened by and stopped to help the poor soul who was obviously hurt and bewildered.
"Who did this to you? they asked.
Came the response, "I don't know. It all happened so fast!"

I had a chestnut cowrie and he just ate what was on the glass and other algae, did not touch the sponges. But I guess theer was not enough algae for it to eat cause it died all of a sudden.
