Since I started this a while back, I thouht I'd let you know what I
tried. I did try the lemon juice but with a turkey baster rather
than a syringe since I haven't gone to the rx and tried to explain why
I want it yet. I put the juice in the baster and squirted a
little right on the aptasia. It immediately shriveled up and
became very unhappy. Some of the smaller ones looked really bad
for a while but for the most part they all recovered the juicing.
I do have several peppermints in the tank and they seem to be doing the
job. Each day I have fewer aptasia. btw the juice didn't
seem to bother the other coral around the aptasia.

If U dont want to worry about chemicals messing up your chemistry, try what I usually do. Take some RODI water and boil it. Then take a syringe with the needle point on it and inject it into the aptasia. Within seconds youll see it turn to mush and disintegrate. It works every time. Make sure you use a needle and not the plastic tip as the needel will pierce the anemone and inject the water right in it rather than just scalding the surface thereby allowing the animal to recover.

I doubt that acidic juice works as well as concentrated kalkwasser injected. (to concentrate it, the lime, CaCO2, is added to boiling water. I wonder if the use of acidic juices started as an accident because some newbie heard about using "limewater" ![](smileys/smiley3.gif) )
Aiptasia have been known to propagate themselves like crazy when irritated and not killed by lethal injection.
The Peppermint Shrimp will find the Aiptasia babies, so don't worry.

Actually, as strange as it might seem, kalkwasser is more soluble in colder water.
I've used kalk injections with mixed results. NaOH or KOH work every time, but I'm not too excited about the cloud of CaCO3 it produces. If you can get a peppermint that'll eat 'em that the best route. It would be nice if citric acid worked too, but I guess it doesn't...

Jon, I've never had to use it but have heard that people made a more concentrated solution with boiling water. If you have tested this yourself and found my understanding to be incorrect, then I thank you sir, for setting me straight on the matter.

Jon is correct, cold water (however not below 4 C) is better. I don't think the term "limewater" is the source of using acids. I just think acids make sense to people as opposed to the possible problems of using kalkwasser. It seems to me like the common theories here are that there are many many ways to rid aiptasia if one so desired to. Some of those methods (squishing them with your thumb, boiling water, whatever) seem pretty safe and easy.

Don't squish the Aiptasia as they will multiply even faster. Boiling water rarely works.
A strong acid or base often works, but be careful not to change your pH too much.
Peppermint are one of my favorite choices. If Berghia are available to you then they are the obvious choice.
