Dying PomPom

MY Pom Pom is dying and I am trying to find out why. I heard that this was a problem for several people a few winters ago. I HAD about 14 stalks of PomPom now I am down to three. It had been gowing like mad for the last 6 months. The pieces that have died were next to some that are still alive. They were scattered throughout the tank, high flow, low flow, intense light, and low light. I know they were not stung by anything. Today I have removed all but one of the dead pieces, and the ones that are alive have slowed their pulsating motion. Everyhing else in the tank is doing well.  I gave one piece to another member and his did not make it either. The dying ones have gone from white in color to grey.

I used to have silver tip xenia in my tank and it would grow like mad.  I got pom pom xenia as well and it is stable.  For some reason about 1.5 years ago the silver tip died off but the pom pom is still going strong.  I'd guess it has something to do w/ things like iodine you don't usually test for.  So may do a few more water changes of the next few days and keep an eye on it. 

my pom pom was doing good and very big now its dying off slowly.  now i have a small one and thats dying off

I have added Lugols solution and started running A/C. But it was to little to late wether or not it would have helped. All previously existing pom pom is dead. But I have noticed at least three new starts of pom pom, two have multiple polyps and one is just one polyp. Hopefully these will fully grow out.

Well here is an update on the POMPOM. It all completely died and I have several starts scattered throughout the tank. I believe what Marks article says about it dying and reproducing. Here is what it looked liked while dying:
