Topic: Best food for fattening up fish? Posted: March 19 2016 at 9:11am |
The clown in my nano is starting to look thin. Since the tank is so small, overfeeding causes issues very fast. What is the best food for fattening him up? Right now I rotate between flakes and mysis shrimp.

Live brine? Instant ocean nano tank probiotic food has bacteria to help prevent over feeding. Nori sheet maybe?

I've had good success fattening up fish by adding a few drops of HUFA (selcon brand is what i have) to the cube of frozen mysis/brine.

A healthy clownfish I had for several years started looking thin about 4 months ago. In spite of the fact that the tank was being overfed (at times) with a smorgasbord of enriched frozen foods, in part to help keep a rare form of Caulerpa from dieing off, that clown passed away a few weeks ago. I don't know if anything else would have helped. It may have had a disease or an internal parasite or it may have just been it's time to go. Aloha, Mark

I agree with the suggestions above. Id also reccomend LRS reef frenzy. I feed this to tge fish in my nano and they go crazy for it. Also if you want to fatten your fish up i would suggest feeding several times a day. increased feedings may negatively impact the water quality... Just do more frequent water changes to address this. One thing that is conveinient about nano tanks is that water changes are really quick and easy! Btw ReefOn sells the LRS reef frenzy food. I hope this helps out.

Growing a stand of Caulerpa, a ball of Chaetomorpha or other Macroalgae: 1) takes care of extra pollution caused by overfeeding; 2) helps keep Cyanobacteria and Hair Algae from growing in response to the overfeeding; 3) reduces the frequency of needed water changes; 4) provides a hiding place for a larger bug population for tank cleanliness and fish food, and 5) contributes a host of other beneficial things for the tank environment. Algae(plant life) is the basis of all life on earth and is very beautiful.

I have frozen enriched brine shrimp that is gut loaded with HUFA protein and then soaked in garlic to encourage more feeding. let me know if you want to try it out.
