Topic: anemone & powerheads Posted: October 12 2008 at 2:16pm |
I have had a problem with a couple of anemones getting sucked into my powerheads. Any suggestions how I can stop this besides taking out the powerheads?
I would appreciate any ideas.

I have only had one anenome get sucked into a powerhead. It was my pink & green tube anenome right after I moved it into this temp tank. Other than that I havent had any problems.
Do you have to powerful of powerheads for your tank?

I knew someone would say take out the anemones.
I had an anemone get sucked into a nano koralia, also a small aqua medic ps 10, so not strong ones. One of the anemones is coming back, but the other is doubtful at the moment.

I make secondary cages to go around the intake screen. I use a black plastic mesh called plastic canvas found in the needlepoint section of the crafts store. I'll see if I have a pic.

Mark's suggestion would be much better than finer material that would clog up easily and possibly damage the pump.

Sorry, the pic isn't that good, it was taken looking down trhough the water.
You can see how the algae has grown around this MJ1200 and it's still pumping at full force. I never clean it. See the cute Bangaii at the right?
The cage is made by cutting pieces and sewing together with fishing line. I make it so it fits snug around the impeller housing then tac it in place with 4 or 5 spots of gel superglue.
