Xenia like lots of light and a higher alkalinity.  I've been told by some very experienced reefers, that they use their xenia as an indicator to let them know if their dkh value is to low.  According to them their pumping rate slows way down or stops when it gets to low. What  is your dkh value?  I keep mine around 12 to 14 dkh and my xenias pump like crazy.

In my experience, lighting is the most important. If the lighting is good then dosing Iodine is next. I have a ton of Zenia in my tank and I'm pulling it when I have something to replace it with but when my Zenia started to slow down in the pulsing motion, I dosed with Iodine and they are back up to pulsing like mad.  I do have to agree with the water motion as well. My Zenia does not pulse as fast where the current is heavy.

Anyone want to trade some frags of Zenia? It's silver tipped. I seriously have a ton. It grows everywhere. It's even growing on my power heads.

And yes it does stink something fierce!

when i had silver tip xenya it grew like mad under my halides in high flow area. when i propigated it all i did was lean a rock on the side if the stalk wait 2 days for the stalk to grow onto the rock and then cut it with a razor blade.... hence no stink since it never came out of the tank
