Sorry, I'm a noob. This came on my live rock and I was surprised to see that it moved to the glass. What is it?

Looks like a rock-boring urchin. I always enjoyed having them in my tanks.

It's an urchin. I had a small one (3mm or so) come in on live rock over three years ago and still have it at about 3 inches across. Sweet hitchhiker!

Thanks! I was thinking it was either a rock boring urchin or a purple short spined urchin. I read a few different forums and I'm wondering if those are different names for the same thing. Also, it's in my fuge right now and I want to move it to the display tank. There are no problems with that, right? I don't have any coral yet, just LR and sand.

Well, mine sometimes decides a coral would look better on its side and pushes it over for me. Other than that I haven't had problems with it.

That's cool that your urchin decorates for you. You just need to teach it to cook and clean and you'll be set.
