Topic: Another lighting question Posted: March 27 2015 at 9:33am |
There are two TaoTronics LED grow lights over my 90G long tank (I don't know the model number). It says input voltage AC85-260V. Each has blue and white LEDs. I have not found a way to adjust the intensity of these lights and I think may be these are too bright. I am trying to find out if I can do anything to be able to control the intensity/power consumption. Does anyone here use these lights and if so, how do you control it?
Thanks

Most of the TaoTronics lights have dimming knobs on the top of each unit for dimming each color separately. They do sell a model that is not dimmable. If you have the non dimmable units then there is no way to dim them and the only option would be to raise them higher off of the water surface. Krazie

There is no dimmable knob. Is there anything that I can connect externally though, some kind of controller?

Unfortunately no. The non-dimmable units don't have the dimming connections on the drivers to allow for any control.
You would have to find replacement drivers with the dimming control on them (it's very hard to find the drivers that are used in these units) and swap out the driver in the unit. I did find one source for the drivers quite a while ago. I ordered from them once and then the company and site disappeared (thank heaven someone didn't go shopping with my credit card info). Haven't found any since then. I have resorted to buying damaged units that people are selling and using them for parts.

Indu,
If it came as a non-dimmable LED then chances are it will cost more to change out the drivers (if you can even find suitable ones) than the lights are worth. Best bet is to start fresh with a new or slightly used dimmable setup.
My son has some new Meanwell drivers ELN48-60D that would likely work, but at about $35 each, and you need one for blue and one for white, they are expensive.
