In the evenings, after my diamond goby has mowed through the substrate, he goes back to his hole and then seals himself in. Literally. Is this normal behavior? In the mornings he opens the hole up again and begins again sifting through the substrate. It's nerve wracking. I lost a purple filefish bc of it. He used to bunk with the diamond goby. You can guess what happened next.
Sounds like normal behavior to me. Mine would always retreat to his cave at night and seal himself in by "closing the door" with a large empty shell. If I moved the shell away during cleaning he would bring it back or attempt to drag some chaeto or loose frags over.
