Well it's been a week and I'm 100% sure that the first fish I ever bought has gone to the great reef in the sky. I've had this guy for six years, bought him when he was just a baby Bangaii. Actually got two of them. Like thunderdome he was the one that emerged when they hit maturity. He went through two total tank crashes and a couple of moves.

Rest in peace little guy!

Anyone else still have their first fish they ever bought? What was your first fish you bought?

Wow! I have a few fish now approaching six years. But that is not common. Your first fish? That is amazing.

I had my 2 percs for 8 years and sold them to bird world cause I wanted designer clowns. I still feel guilty to this day that I did that! :(

I still have my first fish: Big Mama. She is a very large maroon clown. Going on 22 years old now. However, some fish viscously murdered my female jawfish this weekend. I too am very sad as I had her for over 5 years. Hard to lose our fish friends.

Honestly it's more dumb luck then amazing. I have no idea who that guy survived so long. Especially when I was a newbie.

I have a pair of clowns that I've had four 4.5 years but that bangaii was awesome.

I also have a rather old Gold Stripped Maroon Clownfish.  I don't know how old she really is because I purchased her from another reefer as an adult, but I have had her for 10 years now.  I cannot remembers for sure now, but I think she was the first fish to go into my tank.  She certainly went in within a week or two of setting up the tank.  She has been through 2 major crashes and at least 4 tear downs to redo rockwork or remove problem fish over the years.

Sorry to read of Jwoo's loss of that nice Bangaii.

I've seen the Grand Dame many times over the last 15+ years and even taken care of her while Fish Mama was out of town. I hope that she will be a Host on the Reef Tour this year. That way, people could hit two Hosts only about a mile apart, that is, after they visit Tileman on the other side of the freeway in Murray. Thumbs Up

Ross Bagshaw has a Clownfish that is over 15 years old. He recently lost the female of that old pair.

Interesting. Decided to do some research on the bangaii's life span. It seems 4 years in captivity and 1-2 in the wild.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banggai_cardinalfish#Ecology

So it seems my little guy just lived a full long life and passed due to old age. That makes me feel pretty good! Anytime you can have a fish live it's entire life nice and happy is a success in my book.
