I *just* received my Seneye Reef Monitor in the mail...unfortunately I have a midterm exam in two hours, so I can't play. But, I'm excited, so you all have to read about it.
If you aren't familiar, it's a little tiny monitor (not controller) that measures free ammonia, pH, water level, and temperature. Ok, that's cool and all...but...here's why I got it:
It also measures PAR, LUX, and Kelvin!! Since I'm building/tuning my own LED system, I figured it would be nice to know how the lights are performing and looking (to me and the corals).
From the research I've done, several aquarists have measured PAR with both the Seneye and the Apogee systems. There's only about a 1% difference, which is just fine for me.
It retails for about $170ish, and monthly monitoring of pH and ammonia is about $10. I do not plan to use the monthly monitoring since my Apex monitors pH, and I am not terribly concerned about ammonia spikes.
More to come later!
