I'm having a hard time reading the dang thing.  The color is so faint and almost impossible to read.  The first test read 0.  I added 30 ml of red sea iron, next day read 0 again.  I added 60 ml and tested 4 days later and I think, but not sure, it tested at .05.

I have about 110 gallons of water including my sump.

Has anyone had any luck with the red sea iron tests?

Aloha,

If that is .05 ppm, I'd say you have now added enough iron. It's normal for an additive to be initially sucked up when the level is low. I believe the amount of iron in seawater is .001 - .003 ppm. The iron level in your tank should now be good for quite a while. FWIW, when I feel it's time to increase trace elements like that, I just do a good top off with tap water.

Thanks.

What iron test do you use, and is it easy to read?

Aloha Jeff,

Not sure if it is seen as good or bad, but I have been at this so long that  the only testing I do is:
Alk and Ca every 2-3 weeks
Mg and I maybe twice/yr

That's it. Wacko
As I said above, I add tap water once in a while to bring in trace elements. I also use one of the coral products like Kent Coral-Vite. As a long time coral farmer, I've noticed that coral appearance and behavior tell me a lot. There is more about that in the Reefkeeping Tips below.

Mahalo,
