Topic: Elite Aquatics Skimmer won't adjust Posted: September 19 2012 at 9:49pm |
I recently purchased a reef tank. I finally had a chance to set it up last week and am trying to tweak the system before I move the fish into the system. My problem is I can't seem to get the skimmer to not immediately fill up the collection cup.
This is what appears to be the exact skimmer:
The skimmer was taken apart when removing it from the previous location. I put it back together, it looks the same as the image in the above thread.
It is at the same height as it was in the previous location, I even tried raising it but I am as high as I can do before it will be impossible to empty the cup.
I spoke with the previous owner, he said it was the best skimmer he ever had. He said I can adjust the height by turning the standpipe, I tried but I am not able to get the level to go down, only up.
Any input on what may be wrong? It is driving me crazy...

Skimmers usually go nuts for a few days in new systems. Is the cup filing up from bubbles? Where is the actual water line at?

I feel so embarrassed, I figured it out...
I pulled the skimmer out as much as I could, not much space under the tank and the skimmer can't come out without removing the sump. I analyzed the standpipe and came to realize how it works.
I believe you align the dot on the pipe with the inner dot on the housing, then turn it 0 to 180 degrees in either direction to adjust, I thought that as you turned the standpipe it would raise or lower to adjust the level. I think my old ASM G2 experiences were my problem, since that was adjusted by raising the standpipe up or down.
So I have it adjusted so it isn't filling the cup and will work on getting the level right for the desired skimmate.

Once its not over flowing you adjust the water level up for wetter skimate, down for dryer.
