I recently received a piece of this monti and I'm not quite sure how to get it started in my tank.

I have about 9W/gallon of light and so far I've kinda wedged the coral between 2 pieces of live rock.

The coral still has that grape color to it, so I'm assuming it's still alive and well.  I'm just not sure, I'm new to the coral game.  Any tips would be appreciated Smile

Start it very low in the tank to make sure it does not go into shock from excess light. After about a week you can move it up about 1/2 way between the light and the sandbed.

Wedged in the rock is fine. Eventually is will grow and attach it self to the rock (but that takes a while, so you can start it low and mive it up a bit later on).

How many hours are you running your lights?

I think you have a metal halide / T5 combination. I would run the T5s for about 12 hours, and the metal halides for about 10 hours max.

You read my Intro!!  lol

Since last Wednesday I've had it about mid level in the tank, but I've only been running 4x54W T5's because I haven't hung the light fixture yet and the legs that came with it aren't sufficient to stop the halides from heating the tank.

Do you think that the monti would be ok to stay where it's at since I may have inadvertently photo acclimated it using just the t5's?

Or should I move the coral to the bottom when I start using the halides and move it back later?

Thanks for the help!!

When you add the halides start with them on only 2 hrs / day first week.
Add 2 hr / day per week until you reach the correct time.

This will give your coral time to adjust to higher lighting intensity. And you should not have to move the monti at all.
