Seems to be varying opinions on this all over the web.  Most of what I hear is that your PH should be between 8-8.4 and you never want it to stray more than .5 per day.

Well my tank was stable between 8.45 during the day and 8.2 at night.

I've just started to work on it again and added new fish, some more corals, etc and I also adjusted my Aquacontroller to start varying the light time to match daylight cycles.   This added about 2 more hours of 'sun' per day.

Suddenly my PH is sitting between 8.2/night to 8.65 during the day?  That is getting mighty close to a .5 swing daily and I've never see PH that high before.

Should I be concerned?  Should I have the Aquacontroller turn off the Halides if it hits 8.5 or just turn my daylight time back down?

I too have heard the same thing about the swing staying within .5. I asked the question long ago when I started reefing, here on the board and it seemed the general consensus was keeping a consistent, steady pH is the key. My pH swings right around the .5 range according to my APEX and everything is happy and thriving in my tank.

How does everything, coral wise, look in the tank? I use that as more of an indicator than anything else when judging the health of my tank.

Funny thing, I had the same concern last night, but the other way around, as I got an email from my RKM-NET module telling me my pH had dropped to 7.84!

Scary. I added an air stone to my effluent drip tube and a little buffer and was back up to . I've also heard that the swing and how rapid the change happens is more of a concern than the actual value.

IMO corals are the best indicator of undesirable water parameters like Snowsrfr says....
