I am wondering where the best placement for a yellow scroll coral would be? If I remember right I think he had it about 1/2-3/4 down in his tank which is about where I have it. Although he had halides and I have LED.

We have some about 4" down from the waterline under ATI T5's so I would think it should be fine just about anywhere with anything but PC's

Ok cool. Weird thing is under the LED it is just a brown color with green highlights, kind of a bummer:( I love my LED's for the pop in my zoas but when it comes to other stuff I am just disappointed:(

You could always add a couple violet stunner strips from ecoxotic to get more out of your coloration.

I think some purple will help a lot. My purple plus bulbs really make the reds, pinks, oranges, etc pop. While the blues make the greens and yellows light up. Then a couple "whites" thrown in to balance out the color. It has always worked really well for me.

My LED are white and blue do you think if I got a dual t5 fixture and added it to it with purple plus bulbs I would get better yellows? It's weird because the yellows in my zoas pop just not in this scroll coral:(

What LED's are you using? That makes a HUGE difference IMO.

I love my Ecoxotic LED's that I use. My colors are awesome and things are super happy.

Are you talking the ultra violet or the magenta/12k?

+1

Personally with any sps I would go with metal halide w/ supplemental actinic until LED technology is improved. If halides are an option for you that's the way to go in my opinion.

You could throw some True violet LED's in the mix.

I had a yellow scroll under just LEDs for a long time and it was a really cool, it got to big so I sold it, but it did just fine under my LEDs.   When I first switched from MH and T5s to LEDs I bleached 80% of my coral. Now, everything new I get goes into the sand bed or a shaded area to acclimate to all the light.

I had a hard time keeping red colors under just LEDs so I added two T5s. A Blue plus and a Purple plus. My LEDs are so strong that that you can't even tell when the T5s are on or not but my reds have improved since I got the T5s.
Indefinite hiatus from sw aquariums.

Once I have my glorious return I'll set back up the following.
50 Gallon rimless cube.
180 Gallons mixed reef paradise

Do you have any of those? I've never seen them in person

Unfortunately my spike in phosphates the other day killed almost all my sps, I had to frag this beautiful large scroll and only have a bout 3 pieces that survived from the whole coral.

I don't have any, but I may add some when I get a chance.  With this, and maybe using neutral white You may not need the T5's.  But I don't know.

Your missing the royal blues. I get really good pop with yellows but I have the quaillumination with the royal blue. I think adding a few 450nm leds or attinic t5s would fix your problem.  Also going from halide to led is a jump in par levels, and your corals need to adjust to the higher par of a led lighting system. all my sps faded pretty bad when i switched and now i have color almost back and then some. I would say if it was half way down on a halide system I would put in at the bottom of your tank and slowly move it up over a few months.

I didn't notice they were just blue.  I would for sure have royal blue in there, but the next LED I build will have neutral white, royal blue, and true violet's.  At 1/3 each (the neutral white needs a lot of blue added to it).
