Ugh - gotta hate the @$% micro bubbles.
Any way to add baffles between where the bubbles are being created and the return pump?
(Note: In case you dont know, baffles are just pieces of acrylic used to seperate sections of your sump.)

I like microbubbles. It gives the look of a reef crest with crashing waves. Any way you can learn to love them?

When there is a good growth of algae in the refugium, it will stop the bubbles before they get over to the pump. In the meantime, a filter bag of some sort, even just some netting or bridal viel material wrapped around or near the end of the down-tube will stop most of the bubbles.

Where exactly are the bubbles coming from? If it is just from your return line you need to add baffles you could also add a sponge that would also work as a mech filter just wash it every week. If it is from something else IE protein skimmer you need to design better.

Add some floss or foam filter to the surface of the sump. It will trap the bubbles until you find a different method to eliminate them.
I do think micro bubbles can be harmful. They become trapped under your rock and build up. Where there's air there isn't water. No water = no sponge, bacteria, etc. A few of these air pockets likely isn't a problem, but if you have too many, it may become a problem.

Thank's guys for the advice. The bubbles are from my reture line, I will use the foam or sponge then to trap the bubbles till I have good growth of algae in my refugium. By the way, thank you Mark for the macros.

I had bubble trouble last week. It was coming from my spray
bar. Every once in a while a jet of bubbles would come out.
Very annoying. I pulled off one side of the bar to clean it
and found it full of mini snails. As they got in the way of the
holes the bubbles were created. I now have cleaned spray bar
pieces and many tiny snails in the tank. I didn't know they would
live there.

You know what Ijbs I noticed that last night, but I thought the bubbles are just coming from the bubbles already in the water. As soon as I get home tonight I will check out all my power heads Thanks men.
Nick.
