    Posted: April 17 2011 at 4:26pm
Thought I would share a few videos of my curent project.  I have 60 baby clownfish from my picasso pair hatched 4/3/2011.  New hatch on 4/29/2011 of ~182, I have about 60 left from that hatch (lost many in a poly filter).  A hatch between these two are being raised by a friend and the entire clutch will go in his species specific large display tank.  I also have a new hatch 5/12/2011.

These are the 4/3/2011 Hatch Videos

Day 9

Day 12

Day 14

The white baby - Day 14 (actually I have several Frostys)

Day 20

Day 26

6 weeks

6-1/2 weeks

7 weeks

These are the 4/29/2011 hatch.
2 weeks

2-1/2 weeks

And now for the 5/12 hatch

5 days

This is awesome!! Great videos thanks for sharing. I currently have some babies that are  18 days old and 16 days old. They are awesome and so fun to raise.
Share your experience that would be great.

Hey Pam, when I responded to your PM didn't realize you were ahead of me.  I thought you were just getting ready for your first hatch.

This project started when I realized my husband is home all day and he can feed babies.  He accepted the challenge.  Then I started researching and before I knew it I bacame a mad scientist.  Grow this, now grow that, feed this, now that, add this, drain that.  Then they hatched, then I went out of town (good timing)!  Of course much more effort than we expected, but we love our grandkids!

Below is the official thread of my experiment.  Last night I had another hatch that a club member is going to raise.  He took the first batch for a school project (no success), but this one will be his own.

I have a baby catcher that he made that also catches hatches of mysis shrimp, cleaner shrimp, and maybe even peppermint shrimp.  Last night I saw mama and papa cleaner shrimp releasing so I know for sure I have those.

Enjoy!  (Might want to skip to about April 4thish)

Nothing makes me happier than to see their fat bellies.  The white one is really cute because he is white with a big fat orange belly full of nhbbs.

that is very cool! but are you breeding 2 picasso clowns? it is not recommended to breed 2 hybirds ie. piccassos, midnights, nakeds, snowflakes ect. it leads to a week gene pool and defects. its recommended to breed 1 picasso to a noraml true perc. ect,
just some info.

Picassos are not hybrids. They are genetic mutations, just like all the other versions mentioned. For expample Platinum Percs are just Percula clowns with the recessive white gene.

Awesome job with the new clowns! Keep it up!

that is correct Mark. i meant mutations. wrong use of terms, sorry. just trying to let all the breeders know the facts on the matter. the info comes from very reliable sorces. by the way some of them are hybirds.(snow onyx and photons). i should have reffered to the as morphs.

dc - wow, thanks for slamming by babies!   BTW, what you say is not the full fact.

You don't have to breed hybrids to get healthy offspring.  However, breeders do need periodically add diversity to their brood stock.  You would have the same problem if you bred 2 regular percs together generation after generation.  But it is by breeding like pairs that you also increase the % of virtues you want (be it more white, less white, etc). Likewise, IF they carry bad stuff you increase that % as well.  I'm liking what I see so far.  Certainly if I was seeing a high percentage of mutations in the offspring, I would stop breeding them together.  Just like breeding anything else, you need to understand the lineage of the stock you are breeding when you are selecting it's mate.

I agree with Lorraine. Breeding a wild caught picasso to a wild caught picasso (you can buy wild caught picasso's) is no different than breeding a WC percula to a WC percula. Stating  that one should not breed two color morphs together is simply not true. That is how the color morphs came about breeding color morph to color morph. This is true with clown fish, guppies, discus, snakes, or any other animal.

Most are around 1 centimeter in length.  Yes I will be selling them.  I'm not making a list yet as they have so far to go before they are ready.  Please note that I live in Texas.  I would need to ship to Utah.
