Uncle Rico- Don't you wish you could go back in time with all the knowledge you have today? Kip- Yeah..... I guess so.
Just thinking of this (and of some of the young new club members we have here) brought something to my attention. I'm thinking that many of us would change our career fields if we could go back high school right now. I'm somewhat jealous because a few schools are now offering (Get This) programs in aquarium technology.
No, that isn't like biology, nor oceanography. I mean that I have a colleague who is now teaching a class where you learn about protein skimmers, refugia, and metal halides. I just finished reading her book and classroom lab manual. Wouldn't that be awesome! The goal of the program is to earn a degree to work in a public aquarium (of course) or research lab (of course) or to work as a HOBBYIST! Dang that is cool.

That is cool! do you think she will teach something YOU don't
already know? Maybe you should teach this course!
What is her book called? Can she be a speaker? Can you
bring her to a meeting so we can meet her?

Is she teaching college students? Sounds like it. Are they working toward an AA, or Bachelors?

She is teaching college students for a BS program. The book is called Marine Aquarium Systems, it is mostly review for people in our club, but it does focus on some things we don't talk about. A lot of routine maintenance. I could bring her to a meeting, but she teaches in Cali so we'd have to fly her in.
But I'm still jealous.

I'm jealous of her, and also of her students. That sounds a lot more interesting than anything I took.

The lecture outline talks about cleaning off salt creep, pulling out powerhead impellers to clean them, cleaning the glass filters on lights, replacing sock filters.... all sorts of stuff. Probably really good advise, but I never do any of that.
I clean out my powerheads when they stop pushing water.
