Anyone using a Precision Marine Bullet Skimmer?  Does it work well?

I am a big fan of Precision Marine, all their products are built extremely well. However, I don't think I would buy a small beckett skimmer. I think a needle wheel skimmer is more efficient vs. a typical beckett skimmer that requires a large pressure rated pump. That is just my .02, but if you found a really good deal on one or already have one I would say go for it.Smile

Nope just gathering info on them.  I have been reading/thinking about setting up a Zeovit system and they recommend this style skimmer for it.  Thanks for the info on it.

They recommend a beckett skimmer for Zeovit? Did they give a reason why a beckett would be of better use than a needlewheel? I am just trying to figure out why that would be, both do the same thing its just how they are mixing air/water that is different between the two.

Beckett=old school thinking, honestly, and they work fine. The difference is in two things: amount of water processed per unit of time, and energy efficiency. The becketts process crazy amounts of water at a time, injecting pretty good amounts of air.   However, they use pressure-rated pumps to force the water thru the beckett injector, and use a lot of power in the process. About 6 years ago, they were used quite often, but have lost popularity lately due to the rise in excellent needlewheel skimmers.

Personally, I would look elsewhere (at needlewheel/cone combination skimmers).

They say that needlewheels destroys/removes more of the things that are dosed with the system.  So you end up having to dose more of the chenicals back into the system to compensate.

Interesting, where did you read this? There really isn't a differnce between the two skimmers other then how air and water are mixed. Its like Corey said, becketts are just older technology. I have to say, every tank that I have seen in person or online that use the Zeovit system were all using a needlewheel skimmers, I don't recall any using a beckett.

Also the Zeovit guild.  It's not that you can't use the needlewheels, they just say you end up having to dose more then the normal amounts or recommeded amounts while using the needlewheel style skimmer.  From what I can gather so far, I am by no means an expert on this.  I do see alot of threads on www.zeovit.com about people using needlewheels, but I also see the zeo experts saying that they get much better results from a becket style.

Sounds like the becketts are less efficient at removing the zeovit stuff, honestly. I'd still go with the needlewheel-style, but maybe run a smaller model.
