This is rather embarrassing... put in a new homemade sump, but I'm pretty sure the silicone is not agreeing with my tank. Silicone read 100% silicone... never mentions mildecides, but on further reading it says mold-free for 5 yrs... SO I'm assuming there is some form of mildecides in it, though it doesn't list it. Everything shriveled up.. anemone, kenya, shrooms and one chromis has died. Clowns won't eat, though not sure if it's because they're worried about the anemone
Needless to say, I'm removing the sump... but need help with what to do in recovery. IS the problem in my water now? or is removing the silicone from the environment enough? If it is in the water... do I need to do a 100% water change? AAAAGH... frustrated with myself. Can't catch the clowns to put them in a different tank with 'clean' SW.
Anyone have suggestions?

Do a 20% water change and run clean freash carbon. Honestly I havent heard of that happening like that. Which silicone did you use? What else did you add to the mix? (uv/ozone/phosban,carbon ect)

Dion, the silicone was GE Silicone II. It's probably a combo of that and doing too much at once, when I replaced the sump with new 'clean' sump, I washed my sock and put fresh carbon in.... so there wasn't any bactieria left, just a sterile environment.
Still can't catch the clowns, and don't want to stress them further. The nem.. GBTA has doubled in size in the isolation tank, so I know it's at least taking in water. But doubling in size isn't much as it was shrunk up as much as i've ever seen one (probably 1/20th the size of normal).
You think 20% change is enough (along with removing the sump)? My normal w/c is 5gl a week. (55g with about 7g in a 10g sump).

What were you using for a sump before this new one? Did you put in or remove a refugium? If you stirred up sand of a refugium you could release a lot of nasty stuff as well. Weird. Sorry to hear about it.

no fuge, previous sump was just an plain 10g tank. Just a sock, pump, bag o'carbon and skimmer.

How long did you let the silicone cure? I would let it cure for a minimum of 72 hours so it will release anything harmful before you put it in the tank.

I'm still having trouble seeing how the silicone is the problem, because it sounds like you did everything right.
Did you ever use any cleaners on the sump? Was it exposed to any chemicals, cleaners, etc while you were working on it? Ie: was it sitting in the garage where cars are left to run a bit or in the house when you're wife was using some Lysol or something?
Did you give it a good scrub and rinse with clean fresh water before putting it on the tank?

Thanks Deluxe for the offer, but I think everything is calming down. Luckedout I did have the sump in the garage for a day, but did clean it when I tested for water seal. Anyway, its out for now. For the update, I took out sump and put plain tank back in for sump, carbon is fresh, skimmer is out (new sump was to keep water level on the skimmer mainly) 15g water change and every body is back in tank. Kenya tree still has not perked up, kinda droopy and slimy. Mushrooms all opened back up, GBTA has opened his foot/base as big if not bigger than it was previous, but tenticles still little lacking (and he as two mouths ... still  ), male clown has found GBTA and is 'nursing' it so it seems. momma clown is mad at me and wont come out of hiding. So total causalties are 1 chromis (but I think he'd been bullied little by the clown) and candy cane coral frag. We'll see, thanks for all the input guys... I know in the future I'll just be safe and get actual aquarium silicone. It's worth it in the end for the few extra dollars.

I know for a fact that type 2 has Mold additive in it.. Weather it is hurting your corals I dont know..... I did a lot of researching online a few years back and the only GE type I have trusted, used and tested is GE type 1 Clear window and door. I recently bought a tube at walmart. If you keep it in your sump you shouldnt have any algae growing on it.

glad to hear things are settling down. I hope you kept the candy frag. If you're lucky it just might resurrect. those corals are pretty amazing - I had three heads get stung by an anemone and they were totally dead-looking for a couple of months, now they're almost completely recovered.
