Anybody try adding a bubble plate to one of the ASM skimmers? How did it perform? Tips? Issues?
I've been debating on making another trip to Home Depot for another weekend project
I'm just not sure if I'm motivated enough yet or not. I would really prefer to to add a Royal Exclusive Alpha 250 skimmer instead but I REALLY don't want to drop a thousand dollars for one.Big smile (yes, I realize that a bubble plate mod won't raise the performance of an ASM to the latter's level). Just thinking of tinkering around

If you are looking to upgrade your skimmer and not drop a grand I would look into the MSX skimmers. Marine Solutions used to run ASM but say the new MSX skimmers kick their butt from here to Sunday.

Might be something worth looking into.

Well, if I upgrade, it will be to a cone skimmer. I was even looking at the new Esshops brand cone. They look pretty sweet for the size and price given it's a cone. I've considered one of the MSX skimmers, but I'll spend a bit extra if I buy new.

I just want to see if I can get even more improvement to the other mods that I did. I'm really tempted to give this a try. It would be a super easy mod, I think

Wouldnt you have to crack open an ASM to do something like this????

Probably not that big of a deal... I droped my EuroReef RS-80 in my kitchen and it broke in half..., a little weld-on made it as good as new.

The new MSX mini cone mayh be in your range? I think they are $500 and from what I have read they are gonna be a steal at that price.

That does sound like a steal for the MSX mini cone. I'll check that out. Inevitably, I will be buying the 'new and improved', but I think this might be a worthwhile and fun DIY

If you can get it to work and improve results it is defintely a great DIY for those running ASM skimmers.
