Topic: PC Bulb Recommendations Please Posted: April 11 2009 at 8:04pm |
I'm going to order 2 or 3 96w PC bulbs for my 90g tank and would like some suggestions for which bulbs to get. I'll be ordering from Reefgeek. I already got one 12k from them that really impressed me, so I will go back to them for the rest of my bulbs.
I was thinking to get 2 of their 12k / Actintic combos and then maybe a straight Actintic so I'd have one each of the 12k and Actintic and 2 mixed. Will this give me good color? I'm asking here because I can't afford to do it wrong.
Thanks in advance.

I guess I was too polite here... "Please" ... "Thanks" ...
3 days and no one can be bothered to share an opinion. Is there too many PC snobs? C'mon folks, color combinations of bulbs is relevent regardless of the hardware.
Oh well...

In your experience, do I need "any" white bulbs, or will the Actintic/12k(pink) combo be full spectrum enough?
And sorry about the petulant post - still looking for a "tantrum" smiley.

I have never used PC bulbs but know quite a bit about T5. The tough thing is there are no blue bulbs in PC. The UVL 75/25 Aquablue bulb is pinkish purple.
I would run this: UVL  SA/75-25    UVL SA/75-25 UVL SA/12000K   UVL SA/12000K
You will need to run just 2 types of bulbs so you get an even look.

The whiter bulbs will likely give you better growth but the 12k or even the 14k combos will give you better color. Myself, I would go with the 14k 75/25 combo for both bulbs

or maybe one 12k combo and one 14k combo might be cool. Do what I did on my last order: I couldn't decide on two super actinic vho's or one super actinic and one aquasun....I ordered one extra bulb to see the difference. You can still use the extra later

By white light do you mean a 50/50? Or something like a 6700?

I personal love the PC's I was runing on my 75 that it was the Dual Actinics, it had 420 and 460 NM blue. It made the corals realy pop. I am running them in my T5's as well right now. and love them.
Run 10K as your main for the growth and then the actinics as suplemential. IMO. works well for me.

Well, I'll say it's nice to see they finally produced the pc bulbs with built in reflectors. That would have been great when I was using them
