Just thought I would share. My brother down in mona has like 10 freshwater tanks in his house and a couple of months ago I went down and he had like 200 little tiny red shrimp throughout his various tanks. I thought they were cool. Anyways I have heard of people trying to raise ghost shrimp and have heard that it isn't the easiest thing in the world and that they eat their own young and everything else. Well in talking with my brother, these red freshwater shrimp protect their babies, take no extra care, and multiply like mad! Their max size is about 1/3 to 1/2 the size of a full grown ghost shrimp, they eat just about anything and you just let them grow.

Anyways, my brother doesn't have them anymore because he found a way to kill hair algea that also killed the shrimp but there is a cichlid breeder in payson utah that I think still has some.

I just thought it might be an alternate option to everyone rasing shrimp for fish food.

Hopefully this info will help someone.

I am going to get CB.....I know I dont need this set up but I am interested in taking notes. I think live food is best if possible. With your system set up it seems it owuld be fairly easy to give them live food each day..

Well, I got ahold of the guy that has the shrimp but he said that he doesn't have very many at the moment so they are not for sale. I don't know when he will have any soon and he didn't seem too excited to hear that they would be used as fish food.

So, if I find another source, or if my brother can get some more I will let you know

You might be able to buy some online now if your interested. The Hawaiian Red Shrimp on this link seem similar so maybe they would work.
